Bosses putting a ‘digital leash’ on remote workers could be crossing a privacy line

This comes down to the difference between viewing workers as ‘Human Resources’ to be asset managed, or as valuable company members to be nurtured and developed. I’m a little cautious about condemning all monitoring systems because they are needed for compulsory things like COVID security, fire regulations etc. but I’d like to think that there is some level of trust between employee and employer…:

  • A recent report said that algorithmic systems typically used in monitoring the performance of warehouse workers have pervaded more and more industries.
  • The majority of respondents in one survey said they were uncomfortable with the likes of camera monitoring or keystroke monitoring.
